I love these cute little guys. I could watch them running around all day. Thirteen Striped Ground Squirrel are also known as striped gophers. Usually, they are too fast to take pictures. Once in a while I’m lucky and see them in time to stop farther away and move slowly closer. If they feel the least bit threatened, they will quickly dash back down their hole. They are widely distributed through North America. They fatten up during the summer and hibernate in their burrow in the winter, reemerging in March or April. They quite often will stand tall to look around to see if there are any dangers.
